Mayor Nancy Binay commended on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the Makati police for arresting a woman, allegedly a notorious "salisi" suspect, who had long operated in Metro Manila and nearby provinces using multiple aliases.

Binay praised the vigilance and swift action of the city police and security personnel, stressing the importance of public alertness, especially as the holiday season approaches.

“As we enter the Christmas season, more people are visiting malls, parks, churches, and public spaces. I urge everyone to be extra vigilant, secure their belongings, and immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to our authorities. The safety of every Makati resident remains our top priority,” the mayor said.

On Nov. 24, the Makati City Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Col. Pedro A. Alagano, Jr., arrested the 58-year-old suspect, identified as “Chedita Tacata Tan,” in a building on Rufino Street in Barangay San Lorenzo, Makati City, for falsification of public documents and use of a fictitious name.

Authorities said the suspect was also known by several other aliases, including “Melinda,” “Cherry Rodriguez Tan,” “Anna Baler Rosero,” “Mae Anne Tuano Cruz,” and “Erlinda Tacata Tan.”

The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by a security officer assigned to the building after the suspect allegedly tried to enter the premises while falsely claiming to be an employee.

She reportedly presented a Philippine Postal ID under the name “Chedita.”

However, the company’s HR head happened to pass by at the time and immediately recognized her as the same suspect involved in a “salisi” (theft) incident at the establishment on Sept. 17.

Authorities said a verification using the PhilPost Verification App confirmed that the Postal ID was fake, and scanning the QR code revealed an entirely different identity, strengthening the falsification charges against her.

“I want to personally commend the quick action and relentless dedication of the Makati City Police. Their successful apprehension of this long-operating suspect is proof of our focused efforts on fighting crime. My administration remains committed to ensuring that every resident and visitor feels safe and secure in Makati,” Binay said.

Authorities said that the suspect's arrest is expected to provide significant relief to establishments and communities repeatedly targeted by “salisi” and pickpocket groups.

To ensure public safety, the city mayor added that the city has heightened security efforts under Makati’s Holiday Safety Operations, including increased patrols, coordination with private establishments, and proactive crime prevention measures.
