Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima has agreed with presidential son, House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos in that Zaldy Co's video exposés and methods lean toward destabilization.
This, as De Lima reiterated the call for the former Ako-Bicol Party-list representative to bring his corruption allegations to the proper venue so they may be properly addressed and scrutinzed.
In his latest video expose Tuesday, Nov. 25, Co claimed that Rep. Marcos made nearly P51 billion worth of project insertions in the General Appropriations Acts (GAA) or national budgets of 2023, 2024, and 2025.
This was on top of his allegations that President Marcos made a P100-billion insertion in 2025, and that the older Marcos received a P25-billion "standard operating procedure (SOP) or kickback from it.
"This is not a revelation, this is destabilization," said Rep. Marcos, who denied Co's claims and even bared "intel" that the ex-Committee on Appropriations chairman was conspiring with others who would benefit from taking down the current administration.
For Deputy Minority Leader De Lima, Co's manner of messaging implies that there's more to it than meets the eye.
"Kasi pag mga ganyan-ganyan lang kasi hindi natin maiwasang isipin na meron pang ibang agenda kung ganyan ang style ng pagpapalabas ng mga ganyang expose, revelations, disclosures. Whether this is the whole truth or half truth or may konting palabok--kulang, partial or complete truth hindi natin alam yan," noted the former senator.
(Because when things like that come out, we cannot avoid thinking that there may be another agenda if that is the style of releasing such exposes, revelations, disclosures. Whether this is the whole truth, half-truth, or with some embellishment—lacking, partial, or complete truth—we do not know.)
"Ang nagiging impression ng iba is part of an agenda, yung mga destabilization. Yun nga po dapat ang mga iwasan natin. Anything outside the constitutional framework kailangan ay maging maingat tayo kasi may mga unintended consequences yan eh napaka-fragile pa po ng ating demokrasya," she said.
(The impression of others is that it is part of an agenda, of destabilization. That is precisely what we should avoid. Anything outside the constitutional framework, we need to be careful, because there are unintended consequences, and our democracy is still very fragile.)
Co is a central figure in the budget insertion and flood control projects corruption scandal. He has been in hiding abroad for months now and has been issued a warrant of arrest.
"Kung talagang he has the truth, he holds the truth, and nothing but the truth ay kailangang bumalik na siya dito at panindigan niya, at ipalabas at ilabas at ipresenta ng maayos sa tamang opisina or authority, yun po ang ating panawagan," De Lima said.
(If indeed he has the truth, he holds the truth, and nothing but the truth, then he must return here, stand by it, and release and present it properly to the right office or authority. That is our call.)
She said that Co's instalment release of videos sans a signed affidavit simply won't cut it.
"Hindi po pwede yung mga ganyan na video, video lang, so ilan pa kayang mga video ang ilalabas nila. Yun po ang ating panawagan. Hindi tayo nakakasiguro ngayong what’s the whole truth here. At sinu-sino talaga ang involved at gaano kataas ang aabutin ng mga ebidensya."
(Those kinds of videos, just videos alone, are not acceptable. So how many more videos will they release? That is our call. Right now we are not certain what the whole truth is, who are really involved, and how far the evidence will reach.)
