BACOLOD CITY – Around 4,230 families or 13,831 individuals were displaced due to heavy rain from tropical depression “Verbena” in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that 269 families were affected in San Carlos City, 98 in Sagay City, 79 in E.B. Magalona, 386 in Talisay City, 80 in La Carlota City, 329 in Pontevedra, 58 in San Enrique, 12 in HImamaylan City, 590 in Hinigaran, 1,447 in Isabela, 131 in La Castellana, 709 in Moises Padilla, and 42 in Cauayan.
The city government of Kabankalan in Negros Occidental reported more than 100 families affected by the tropical depression.
Flooding was reported in Barangays Bagonhon and Quezon in San Carlos City, Bago City, Pontevedra, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Kabankalan City, and Himamaylan City.
Classes were suspended for two days in all 31 local government units (LGUs) in the province from Monday, Nov. 24, to Tuesday, Nov. 25.
A total of 538 passengers were stranded in various seaports in Negros Island Region (NIR), 433 in Negros Occidental, 60 in Negros Oriental, and 45 in Siquijor. Also stranded were 196 cargoes, 35 vessels, and three motor bancas.
In Negros Oriental, 458 families or 1,449 persons were subjected to pre-emptive evacuation.
