House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos has countered Zaldy Co's claims of massive corruption by linking him to certain individuals who want to destabilize the current Marcos administration.
"I hope that the public can be reminded that we are talking of a person with no credibility whose vested interests are to release these videos ta destabilize the government," Rep. Marcos said of the former Ako Bicol Party-list congressman in a statement Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 25.
This was minutes after Co uploaded a Facebook video wherein he accused the presidential son of inserting an accumulated P50.938 billion worth of projects in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 national budgets.
"This is someone who our kababayan's know to be the architect of this mess yet continues to insult their intelligence by saying 'wala siyang nakuha (he didn't receive anything)'," Rep. Marcos said.
"Evidently, the only path he sees for himself is one where he stirs political chaos in the hope of escaping his own legal troubles. Gusto niyang pabagsakin ang kasalukuyang administrasyon para ma-abswelto siya sa kanyang mga krimen (He wants to bring down the current administration to get exonerated from his own crimes)," he said of Co.
"In fact, the intel suggests he already struck a deal with those who stand to benefit from such a change," the majority leader bared without mentioning any names.
"HINDI ITO REBELASYON, ITO AY DESTABILISASYON (This is not a revelation, this is destabilization)," Rep. Marcos said, the emphasis his own.
Sandro calls insertion claims 'lies'
Co, a former chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, is a central figure in the budget insertion and flood control projects corruption scandal. He has been in hiding abroad for months now.
Rep. Marcos, the eldest son of President Marcos, went as far as to call Cong the "newly-crowned champion of the DDS cabal". DDS in this context means "Duterte Diehard Supporters".
"Anyone can sit in front of a camera from abroad and spew lies. The statements from the newly crowned champion of the DDS cabal, former Congressman Zaldy Co, are frankly as fantastical as they are false," the 31-year-old solon said as he denied the insertion allegations.
Co has also accused President! Marcos of making huge insertions to the national budget.
Rep. Marcos ended his statement by utterly rejecting Co's "truth crusader" image.
"Sa aking mga kababayan, si Zaldy Co ay hindi po isang journalist o truth crusader. Siya po ay isang kriminal na umiiwas sa hustisya. Huwag po tayong magpabudol sa kanya (To my fellow countrymen, Zaldy Co is not a journalist or a truth crusader. He is a criminal evading justice. Let us not be deceived by him)," he said.
