Despite the reported decline in cybercrime cases, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will remain vigilant and proactive in combating online scams especially in time for the Yuletide season.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said all policemen were alerted and instructed to protect the public from cybercriminals and ensure that individuals who exploit unsuspecting citizens are swiftly identified and held accountable.
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) reported 3,941 online scam cases so far in 2025, compared with 7,081 cases recorded in 2024. The decline is credited to increased public awareness and reporting of cybercrimes.
“Even with fewer reported cases this year, our mission remains the same, and that is to protect the public and ensure justice is served for those who fall victim to online scams,” Nartatez stressed.
He stated that the PNP would strengthen coordination with other government offices and anti-cybercrime units to identify and apprehend perpetrators.
“Our policemen will also work closely with other agencies involved in anti-cybercrime operations to stop these illegal activities and hold the offenders accountable,” he said.
Nartatez also reminded the public to remain vigilant against online scams, warning them not to believe everything they see on the web.
