San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora has announced that the San Juan Crematorium and Columbarium will soon be built inside the San Juan City Cemetery in fulfillment of his administration's promise of "womb to tomb" care for San Juaneños.
Zamora led the groundbreaking for the P71-million facility which was also attended by other city government officials and employees.
"The Makabagong San Juan Crematorium and Columbarium is a modern facility designed to offer dignified, accessible, and compassionate services to San Juaneños during times of grief," Zamora said.
"The project features four chapel units on the ground floor—each equipped with its own pantry and toilet facilities—and a columbarium consisting of five layers of urn niches, totaling 1,110 niches. With an approved contract budget of P71,000,000, the facility will significantly modernize and enhance the city’s public cemetery services," he added.
The facility's cremation services will also be offered for free to all San Juan City residents.
"By having our own facilities such as these, we can provide an affordable option for families. The new chapels will mean that families will no longer have to hold wakes on the streets. Every person deserves a proper wake and burial, and a peaceful space for loved ones to gather to pay their last respects for those who have passed away," the mayor noted.
