Staged in the Benilde DAC’s Blackbox Theater, Hulma Festival: Fuego! closed last November 20, 2025 with strong audience reception as students from the Theater Arts, Production Design, and Creative Industries Management programs successfully mounted the production. The festival holds special significance as it commemorates 10 years of Benilde Theater Arts’ growing community, and marks the official launch of the Benilde Theater Company (BTC), an exciting new platform for emerging theater-makers.
Showcasing the works of contemporary Filipino playwrights, Fuego! ignited conversations on identity, memory, love, and transformation among students and audience members alike. Fuego! serves as BTC’s first offering, embodying the passion, artistry, and fearless spirit that define Benildean theater. Being primarily student-led, the festival highlighted the skillsets and perspectives of the student-artists, resulting in a series of engaging, immersive, and thought-provoking performances. Their collaborative efforts allowed each play to be an artistic experience, and captivated audiences with the breadth and depth of student creativity.
Hulma Festival: Fuego! has served as a platform for emerging artists to explore new ideas, strengthen their skills, and contribute to the evolving landscape of contemporary performance. By highlighting the creative potential of young theater makers, the Benilde Theater Company shines a light on the importance of supporting student-led artistic initiatives within the community.
