The future is uncertain for University of the East as two of its main players Wello Lingolingo and Precious Momowei appeared to have contrasting plans following their winless season in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball.
After their final game in the season where they lost to Far Eastern University, 84-77, Lingolingo expressed his desire to return stronger next year.
Momowei, meanwhile, admitted he is still unsure at the moment.
“Yeah, [I’m coming back],” said Lingolingo.
“I don't know, honestly. I don't know. But we'll see. But right now, I don't know,” Momowei followed it up.
The 6-foot-9 Nigerian center admitted it was a heartbreaking season, especially after having been tasked to co-captain the squad.
“Honestly, this is my only season that Coach Chris made me a co-captain. I have never done this before. I have never led a team before,” said Momowei.
“That's so much pressure already because being a captain, you have to lead, you have to win, you have to get everyone together. So I think I didn't do much of that on and off the court,” he added.
This marked the second time that UE finished winless in the season, with the first time last Season 84.
Despite the forgettable season, Lingolingo, meanwhile, remains optimistic of the future especially after seeing rookies like Topher Lagat and Dylan Despi slowly stepping up.
“Maybe we can work on that on our next season. Sana mag-improve pa kami as a team and gumanda pa ang chemistry namin next year,” Lingolingo said.
