ZAMBOANGA CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation-9 arrested a 20-year-old woman during an entrapment operation here on Friday, Nov. 21, for allegedly extorting P100,000 from a Philippine Coast Guard personnel.
The suspect was identified as Balquis Aidarus Alih, alias Bai.
She was arrested after she asked the amount in exchange for withdrawing a rape allegation.
Alih is facing charges for violating Articles 293 and 294 of the Revised Penal Code (robbery and extortion through intimidation and threats).
"Let this serve as a warning to all fellow men in uniform to be vigilant and aware of schemes like this that target uniformed personnel," said a statement from the Provost Marshall Unit-Coast Guard South Western Mindanao.
The suspect's modus involves demanding a huge amount of money to withdraw a fabricated rape allegation after meetups with uniformed personnel.
The Philippine Coast Guard continues to investigate if other personnel have fallen prey to the extortion scheme.
