President Marcos has urged remaining individuals with warrants of arrest over flood control anomalies, including resigned lawmaker Zaldy Co, to surrender as he announced Monday, Nov. 24, that seven were already under custody.
In a video message, Marcos reported that out of the 16 individuals with warrants of arrest from Sandiganbayan, seven have been under the custody of authorities, two have expressed to surrender, while the others remain at large.
Pito ang nanatiling at large at kasama na diyan si Zaldy Co (Of the three warrants and sixteen names, seven are now in the hands of authorities. Two are set to surrender. Seven accused, including Zaldy Co, remain at large)," Marcos said in a two-minute video.
The President told others to surrender, and not wait for authorities to go after them.
To all the remaining accused, my advice is surrender now. Do not wait to be pursued. Your situation will be better if you face the case)," he told them.
Marcos did not give further details about the arrests, but disclosed that the arrested person by the NBI was found not in his residence.
Thus, he issued a warning against those helping the accused individuals to hide or evade arrest that they will also be held accountable.
The President stressed that the "biggest help" the accused individuals can get is to voluntary surrender and face the allegations against them.
So we are saying that for those who intend to help these people, the biggest help you can give them is for them to surrender, so they can respond to the allegations they are facing)," Marcos said.
To those attempting to help in hiding, remember that in some way you will also be held accountable if you are hiding a fugitive from justice)," he warned.
He assured them that no one will be given special treatment as they remain under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), pending court's order.
According to Marcos, one of the 16 accused individuals was arrested by the NBI, while six of them voluntarily turned themselves in to the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
Two more have expressed their intention to surrender and are currently coordinating with the PNP–CIDG for their turnover, Marcos also said.
