BUTUAN CITY – The city government of Butuan suspended face-to-face classes in public schools on Monday, Nov. 24, as precautionary measure against the possible effects of tropical depression ‘’Verbena” which approached the Caraga region.
Private schools were encouraged to suspended classes.
Butuan City Mayor Lawrence Lemuel “Law” H. Fortun cancelled work in all government agencies on Monday until further notice.
“Due to the prevailing heavy rainfall since Monday dawn from tropical depression Verbena, we encourage the concern agencies to follow to prevent any untoward incident,” the city chief executive said.
“Be careful my fellow Butuanons, and follow advice from your local officials and our disaster teams who are already roaming around for your safety,” Fortun added.
Rescue teams and personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) have been deployed and people living in low-lying and flood and landslide prone areas were advised to prepare for possible evacuation.
“Stay alert and be prepared as the weather goes and always listen to the advice of your local officials and other concerned agencies of the government of any evacuation advisory,” Fortun said.
