Petro Gazz dethroned defending champion Creamline, 25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 25-14, to advance to the semifinals in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 24.
Lindsey Vander Weide bucked an ankle sprain early in the match and returned in the fourth set to help the Angels to their 10th semis appearance since joining the league in 2018.
The win not only ousted the multi-titled Cool Smashers but also snapped their 19-straight semis appearance.
It was also Creamline’s worst finish since joining the league in 2017.
Vander Weide hurt her right ankle after a bad landing early in the first set and returned in the fourth where she fueled Petro Gazz to a dominating run and never looked back.
Veteran Myla Pablo carried the cudgels for Petro Gazz and came off the bench after Vander Weide injured her ankle, delivering 26 points on 23 kills, while Brooke Van Sickle chipped in 18 attacks for 19 points. MJ Phillips added 10 points, including two blocks.
Vander Weide, meanwhile, finished with six points.
“Siyempre nagulat kami dun sa nangyari kay Lindsey. Pero nung pinasok ako, wala namang pressure sa loob. Pag may pressure kasi, mawawala yung game mo,” said Pablo.
Coco Schwan finished with 17 points, Pangs Panaga added 14, while Tots Carlos scored 13 points, all of which went down the drain for Creamline.
