In a roundtable interview held at the Shangri-La Hotel on Nov. 11, cast members Sue Ramirez, Janella Salvador, Charlie Dizon, and Kaila Estrada shared their thoughts on the importance of speaking the truth.
"I don't think I have a problem with it. I'm very outspoken. I came from a loving household where we were taught to speak up when necessary, not only for ourselves but also for others. I believe everyone is entitled to express their views. What we say is worth being heard," Sue stated.
Janella admitted that she often finds herself in trouble for speaking her mind. "Personally, I get into trouble a lot for sharing my true feelings. I don’t pay attention when people tell me that I shouldn’t say or act a certain way."
Kaila added that one reason people hesitate to speak up is the fear of being scrutinized.
"That’s the fear. Many people choose not to say anything out of fear of judgment. However, if you know that what you have to say matters and if you want to voice the concerns of those who are too afraid to do so, then it's worth it, especially if you have good intentions and aren’t hurting anyone," she said.
Jake Cuenca, who plays Edong, agreed that being outspoken is significant to him.
"I'm a very vocal person. If I see something I don’t like, I address it immediately. However, unlike Edong, it's important to remember that he experiences a lot of injustice and has no one to confide in but himself. He has only the Bible to find peace, but in a twisted manner, he navigates his struggles. For me, it's quite different because I prefer to express myself openly, while he tends to keep everything inside," Jake said.
"What Lies Beneath" is now streaming on Netflix and iWant. It will also air on Kapamilya Online Live, Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, and TV5.
