Uptown Bonifacio and Michael Leyva reimagine Christmas with conscious design
By MBrand
Uptown Bonifacio welcomed the holiday season with a celebration that places artistry, sustainability, and Filipino creativity at the heart of Christmas. This year’s centerpiece, created in collaboration with renowned fashion designer Michael Leyva, transforms excess fabrics and leftover materials from Leyva’s previous couture collections into an ethereal 30-foot Christmas tree inspired by a celestial muse.
The launch was led by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, First Vice President and Head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Graham Coates, Cluster General Manager Camille Elviña, and designer Michael Leyva during the unveiling of the installation at Uptown Mall.
At the center of the celebration is a tree that departs from traditional décor while preserving its iconic silhouette. Draped in layered fabrics and sculptural details, the installation mirrors Leyva’s signature romantic aesthetic while highlighting a purposeful message: that beauty can emerge from what we choose to renew and reimagine.
“This collaboration is a celebration of Filipino artistry and the values we want to uplift this season,” said Graham Coates, First Vice President and Head of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. “Through Michael’s vision, we see how creativity can spark renewal and how thoughtful design can strengthen meaningful connections within our Uptown Bonifacio community. It reminds us that the holidays are at their best when they inspire us to create, to reflect, and to share.”
Crafted from excess fabrics, archival trimmings, and leftover materials from Leyva’s atelier, the tree’s layered textures and couture-inspired ornaments echo the designer’s philosophy that artistry becomes more powerful when paired with purpose. Surrounding angel forms, also adorned in reimagined materials, extend the narrative of renewal while adding a celestial touch to the installation.
“As designers, we have to think of something we can recycle or we can make something beautiful out of—things that we don’t use anymore,” shared Leyva. “Seeing the finished tree is genuinely uplifting, and it captures the message of Christmas—love and pure happiness.”
Guests are invited to experience Wrapped in Style throughout the season—exploring the couture-inspired Christmas tree and decorations. The celebration continues all season long with the Uptown Run Club’s indoor Mall-a-thon on December 6 and Door Dash Run in partnership with participating restaurants on December 11, elegant Christmas quartet performances on December 24 and 31, and a Santa Meet and Greet on December 23 and 25.
