American comedian Steve Byrne left Bangkok, Thailand, with a grateful heart, saying it was an honor and a privilege to host the 74th Miss Universe Competition last Nov. 21.

But Byrne admitted that he thought Miss Côte d'Ivoire would win Miss Universe. Responding to text messages and comments, Steve also said that he didn't read the results backwards or upside down.
"No, I didn't read it upside down. I didn't read it backwards. I definitely did not make up my own winners. I wouldn't even know how to judge or what the criteria are," said Byrne on Instagram.
Byrne added, "Had I messed it up, the director or pageant officials would have been in my ears or probably stormed the stage to be honest with you."
The host also congratulated Miss Mexico for winning Miss Universe.
"All that said, congratulations to Miss Mexico. I'll be honest, while I was watching everything unfold, especially in the final 5, I thought Miss Côte d'Ivoire was going to win. But Miss Mexico won. So congratulations to her," Byrne said.
On why he did the catwalk during the worldwide broadcast, Byrne explained, "So I was told the final 12, the list was ready, and we're going to air soon. The director told me, 'You need to kill time and stretch.' So I asked, 'How much time is it?' And then the director told me, 'Cueing Steve.' And I didn't know how long I had. So I literally said, 'Okay.' So all the women did their catwalk, and I did that. So I was told the list is ready if you want to run over the stage. So I finished it, ran over, grabbed, and read the top 12. It was an honor and a privilege to do it. And no, I didn't make up my own list. I didn't read it backwards.
"After the incident with Steve Harvey, I knew how much pressure was on me to get it right. So I hope I did a great job. I had a wonderful time doing it," he also said.
It would be recalled that Harvey messed up the results of the 2015 Miss Universe beauty pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Harvey then announced that Miss Colombia had won, even though it was supposed to be Miss Philippines.
Byrne also said the best part of the pageant was meeting all the candidates.
"The best part was meeting all the candidates. They were so fantastic and gracious. No twerking," he added.
