Quezon 1st district Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga has credited President Marcos for pulling all the stops to protect the country's agricultural exports and in turn benefit local farmers.
Enverga, chairman of the House Committee on Food and Agriculture, had this to say following the celebrated decision of the United States (US) to scrap the 19 percent tariff on agricultural products coming from the country.
This is an important step to strengthen our competitiveness in the market and bring relief to farmers and agricultural businesses)," the veteran solon said.
"Pinasasalamatan natin si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa kanyang matatag na liderato at masinsinang diplomasya na patuloy na nagbibigay-proteksiyon sa ating agricultural exports (We thank President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his steadfast leadership and intensive diplomacy that continue to protect our agricultural exports)," said Enverga.
Enverga was referring President Marcos' meetings with US President Donald Trump and other high-level American officials wherein the Philippine leader was able to finesse a favorable set-up for Filipinos.
According to the report, coconut oil, pineapple, banana, mango, dried and processed fruits, desiccated coconuts, fruit juices, frozen tuna fillets, rice wafer products, confectionery items, coffee, tea, cocoa, spices, dalandan, tomato, beef, and certain fertilizers will remain exempt from high tariffs.
(This is a significant support for the livelihood of our farmers. Our products will enter the market more smoothly and open concrete opportunities, livelihoods, and new hope for every Filipino family that depends on agriculture.)
(We will continue to advance policies and initiatives that will provide a more just, stable, and prosperous future for our farmers and for the entire nation.)
Enverga was also the food and agriculture panel chairman during the previous 19th Congress.
