ILOILO CITY – A subsidiary of Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) has launched a P17.3-million lighting system for a football field in this city.
The Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC), a subsidiary of the MGen that operates coal-fired power plants in this city, inaugurated the lighting system of La Paz Plaza Football Ground this month after it was initially postponed last October due to stormy weather.
Supported by the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the lighting system is a public-private partnership (PPP) with the Iloilo City government that provides an international standard lighting system of the football grounds of the plaza in La Paz District, where PEDC generates its coal-fired energy.
The lighting project is considered professional grade that allows evening play, events, and training sessions.
“At MGen, we believe that our role goes beyond generating power. It is about empowering people, strengthening communities, and lighting the path towards a better future,” said MGen President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio.
Also present during the ceremony were Mayor Raisa Treñas, MGen First Vice President and Panay Site Head Antonio Cabalhug Jr., OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao, and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman John Patrick Gregorio.
