The International Criminal Court (ICC) will livestream its decision on former president Rodrigo Duterte’s interim release appeal on Friday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 a.m. (The Hague) via the ICC website and Facebook and YouTube pages.
The announcement was made on the ICC’s website on Friday, Nov. 21.
“On Friday, 28 November 2025 at 10h30, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will deliver its judgment on the appeal of Mr. Rodrigo Roa Duterte against Pre Trial Chamber I’s ‘Decision on the Defence’s ‘Urgent Request for Interim Release’ and ‘Renewed Request for Interim Release’” of 26 September 2025,” it said.
The Pre-Trial Chamber I (PTC I) has rejected the interim release application of the former leader last Sept. 26, ordering his continued detention in The Hague, Netherlands, where he has been since March this year.
The interim release request was rejected after the pre-trial chamber noted the remarks of Duterte’s children, particularly of Vice President Sara Duterte who said in one event that she would want to break her father out of jail.
It also said that Duterte and his family have repeatedly questioned the jurisdiction of the court, raising questions on whether the former president will present himself before the court if a trial is to take place while he’s on interim release.
According to the ICC, the hearing will be done in both English and French on the ICC’s website and Facebook accounts, and in English on its YouTube Channel.
The announcement reminded the diplomatic corps and non-government organizations that they must request attendance via email to [email protected] before Nov. 25.
Attendees are also asked to present a valid passport or valid ID with photo at the main entrance of the Court.
Media personnel who wished to cover the hearing must also seek accreditation via email to: [email protected] before Nov. 25. They must likewise present a valid press card and a valid passport or valid ID with photo at the main entrance of the Court.
The general public will be allowed access to the hearing on a first-come first-served basis.
Duterte was supposed to attend a confirmation of charges hearing last Sept. 23 but this was postponed by the pre-trial chamber after his defense counsel—Nicholas Kaufman—claimed that he was not fit to stand trial.
A team of medical experts has been appointed and was ordered to submit its medical report on the former president’s health condition by Dec. 5.
Aside from the interim release appeal, the defense team also appealed its jurisdiction challenge after the pre-trial chamber affirmed it has jurisdiction on Duterte’s case. The defense is also seeking the adjournment of all legal proceedings against the former leader due to his allegedly declining cognitive abilities.
Duterte is facing crimes against humanity of murder charges due to the thousands of deaths of mostly impoverished Filipinos during his administration’s war on drugs campaign.
