An eight-percent decline in dengue cases was observed in the weeks leading up to the onslaught of Typhoons Tino and Uwan, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday, Nov. 22.
According to the agency, cases fell from 15,182 recorded during the period of Sept. 28 to Oct. 11 to 14,038 cases from Oct. 12 to Oct. 25, 2025.
However, the DOH noted that the decline was recorded in the week immediately before Typhoons Tino and Uwan struck, a period that was followed by widespread flooding across multiple regions.
The agency cautioned that there is a high possibility that water-filled containers were left behind after the storms, which can serve as breeding sites for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue transmission.
The health department urged the public not to be complacent and to clear potential breeding sites such as discarded tires, flower pots, and trash bins.
The DOH also reminded the public to seek immediate medical consultation once symptoms appear, noting that dengue can escalate quickly without timely treatment.
“Agad magpakonsulta kung sakaling makaramdam ng sintomas gaya ng lagnat, pagpapantal, pananakit ng katawan, kalamnan at mga mata, pagkahilo, at pagsusuka (Seek consultation immediately if symptoms such as fever, rashes, body pain, muscle and eye pain, dizziness, and vomiting occur),” the agency said.
