Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) chief operating officer Mark Lapid has announced Club Intramuros Golf Course is set to be a recreational space for the community every Sunday, beginning Nov. 26. Announced via a press release on its website, the plan indicates that the golf park is set to be a recreational space for community use from 6 AM to 6 PM. Golfing activities will still continue from Mondays to Saturdays.
"Ito ang isa sa mga ambag ng TIEZA para sa programa ng pamahalaan to promote family bonding and spend quality time together sa pamamagitan ng pamamasyal sa Intramuros Golf Course (This is one of the contributions of TIEZA toward community programs to promote family bonding and spend quality time together by exploring the Intramuros Golf Course)," shares Mark.
Guests can now go for a jog or a leisurely stroll along the designated cart paths. Picnics can also be held at identified open grassy areas. Activities such as stretching and yoga for small groups are also expected to take place. Pets on leash will also be welcome, provided the owners clean up after their mess.
Though there will still be some areas restricted to guests to preserve the course and ensure the safety of all guests. There is hope that this initiative will allow for more green spaces to be made available in our highly urbanized areas. Recently, the Manila City government's announcement to convert the golf course into a public forest park was met with some opposition. Club Intramuros is known for its 18-hole course and has served as a venue for several golf competitions and training courses over the years. Online, however, the general public seems to rejoice in the news of the golf course being converted fully into a forest area. Some point out that by doing so, it might help as a means of natural flood control.
