Former Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. says that the reported Office of the Ombudsman-led investigation against him could be about a "recycled subject".
In a statement sent to House of Representatives reporters Thursday afternoon, Nov. 20, Gonzales clarified that he wasn't aware of any ongoing probe against him.
"While I welcome any inquiry on the matter, I am not aware of an ongoing Ombudsman formal investigation against me on prohibited interest," he said.
"I recall that a case against me involving the same projects filed before the Ombudsman was dismissed sometime in 2023 for lack of merit," Gonzales noted.
"It appears to be a rehashed and recycled subject, if any," reckoned Gonzales ,who served as House senior deputy speaker during the previous 19th Congress.
Earlier Thursday, it was reported that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla said the former veteran lawmaker was being investigated for his alleged links to P1.6 billion worth of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) infrastructure projects.
The contracts were reportedly awarded to AG Gonzales Jr. Construction & Trading Co. Inc. It is allegedly being ran by Gonzales' relatives.
