The Piggatan Detour Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, is expected to open by December as engineers work round-the-clock to restore access after last month’s bridge collapse, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported Thursday, Nov. 20.
Construction has now reached 84 percent completion, the DPWH said.
Workers are maintaining continuous operations to ensure the detour bridge provides temporary access for motorists and transporters while preparations for the replacement of the collapsed Piggatan Bridge continue.
The detour bridge is expected to immediately ease the movement of goods, services, and daily travel for residents affected by the disruption.
The original Piggatan Bridge collapsed on Oct. 6 after three heavy trucks, each weighing around 50 tons, crossed simultaneously, injuring seven people and cutting off a vital transport link in the area.
