INFANTA, Quezon – A 47-year-old laborer drowned on a river after his banca overturned in Barangay Dinahican, this town, this week.
Police said the victim Karding, a resident of Barangay Balugao, this town, sailed with his cousin Rodney on the Agos River on Sunday, Nov. 16, from General Nakar, Quezon towards Barangay Banugao here.
The banca turned upside down when it reached Sitio Gacawayan, Barangay Dinahican due to strong river current.
Rodney managed to save himself and Karding failed to emerge. Rodney sought the help of authorities who looked for the victim.
The victim’s body was found floating on the sea and in early stage of decomposition.
Meanwhile, a man was wounded in a gunfight with police after he allegedly robbed the house of two women in Barangay Pangao, Lipa City, Batangas before dawn on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Police identified the suspect as Warren, 25, of Barangay Lodlod, Lipa City.
Investigation said that the victims were awakened by an unusual noise. One of them got up and saw the suspect roaming.
She called for help and the suspect jumped out of the window with an expensive watch.
Patrolling policemen pursued the suspect and cornered him but he fired at lawmen who retaliated.
The suspect was wounded and arrested and taken to a hospital in Lipa.
Recovered from the suspect were the watch, gun, two plastic sachets containing suspected marijuana, and a cellular phone.
The suspect faces appropriate complaints.
