J. A. Tan brings personal memories to life at Gallery C
Gallery C launched its new show on Nov. 18, 2025, and it’ll be exhibiting the “naïf” art of J. A. Tan until Jan. 17, 2026. Entitled “Return and Remember: Places and Home,” the exhibit is a very personal exploration of memory, identity, and the emotional topography of one’s home. For J. A., it’s a journey of connection, one that finds meaning in his acceptance and understanding of the fact that he is autistic.
“Art is my existence, a silent dialogue with the world. Each stroke brings clarity, revealing emotions and ideas,” J. A. explains. “Words fade; colors speak. I paint to bring out my thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and use my art to understand the world we live in.” J. A. graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from one of Canada’s top art institutes.
In 2012, the United Nations Postal Administration chose J. A.’s “Victory” to represent Autism Awareness on an international postage stamp. More recently, the small organic winery Montecorneo 570 in Perugia, Italy, chose his “Rice Fields” painting for the label of their Albe Grechetto Passito dessert wine. A well-attended opening, be sure to drop by Gallery C to be amazed by his simple yet stirring artistry.
