The Miss Universe fever is definitely on as the prestigious pageant hosts its Preliminary Competition in Bangkok, Thailand. On Nov. 19, 2025, 120 women from all over the world graced the stage, showcasing grace, elegance, and poise as they entered the costume, swimsuit, and evening gown rounds of the Preliminary Competition.
For many fashion savants, the evening gown segment was the highlight, with Filipino fans raving over the ensemble worn by Ahtisa Manalo of the Philippines. Designed by Pampanga-based fashion designer Mak Tumang, the gown draws its inspiration from the Pinctada maxima, a species of pearl oyster also known as the South Sea pearl oyster.
Dramatic and truly captivating, the midnight blue gown features gilded embellishments and “sunburst-like rays, a nod to the iconic Miss Universe crown.”
This is not the first time a Mak Tumang creation has taken the spotlight on the Miss Universe stage. His most notable creation, the Lava Gown, was the winning look of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
