BACOLOD CITY – A 72-year-old grandmother was fatally hit by an ambulance in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Police said the victim Maria was on board a tricycle when she saw her son riding a motorcycle. She ordered the tricycle to stop and disembarked.
However, she was hit by an ambulance while crossing the road and was brought to a hospital where she was declared dead.
Police Capt. Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said the ambulance driven by a 47-year-old job order casual employee of Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, was reportedly speeding and the victim suddenly crossed the road.
The ambulance driver was released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention.
The victim’s family and ambulance driver have discussed the case but police are yet to be informed of their decision.
