Over 100 families displaced by a San Juan City fire were given temporary shelter in modular housing units (MHUs) installed by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the deployment follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to prevent the displacement of families from disasters or government projects.
He added that the MHUs also serve as a staging area for the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
Installed in Barangay Batis through coordination with Mayor Francis Zamora, the MHUs can accommodate up to 156 families.
The project marks the first operational in-city staging area under the Expanded 4PH in Metro Manila, giving fire victims a direct path to permanent housing.
Aliling emphasized that the temporary shelters will provide comfort and dignity to residents.
He explained that the permanent housing, implemented by the Social Housing Finance Corporation under President Federico Laxa, will use faster modern construction technology without compromising durability.
“Ang utos ng Pangulo ay walang madi-displace sa ating mga kababayan na nabibiktima ng sakuna o kaya naman ay apektado ng mga proyekto ng gobyerno (The President’s directive is that no Filipino should be displaced due to disasters or affected by government projects),” Aliling said.
“Patunay po ito sa patuloy na pagsusulong ng DHSUD, alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., sa ligtas, disente at may dignidad na pabahay para sa lahat (This is proof of DHSUD’s continuous efforts, in line with President Marcos Jr.’s directive, to provide safe, decent, and dignified housing for all),” he added.
