CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) has created a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to look into the devastation left by typhoon "Tino."
The SITG Tino, which will be headed by the PRO-7 deputy regional director for pperations, will be a multi-agency body tasked to look into the cause of the massive damage left by the typhoon that battered Metrco Cebu last Nov. 4.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO-7, assured that the SITG will come up with a transparent report.
“SITG ‘Tino’ represents our unwavering commitment to truth, accountability, and justice. The public deserves clear answers, and we will investigate with integrity, diligence, and transparency to ensure lessons are learned and responsibilities upheld,” said Maranan.
Maranan said the investigation that the SITG will conduct will be based on technical and field assessments.
He added that the SITG will support the ongoing investigation by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Tino left a trail of devastation in Cebu, leaving at least 50 people dead while 44 individuals remained missing.
Apart from determining what caused the massive destruction, the SITG will also look into the possible liability of government officials who may be involved in flawed flood control projects that failed to cushion the impact of the flood.
