Police probe deaths of freelance model, boyfriend in Quezon City

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating the deaths of a 23-year-old freelance model and her alleged boyfriend in separate incidents.
The freelance model, Gina Lima, was declared dead on arrival at Quezon City General Hospital on Sunday night, Nov. 16, after being found unresponsive inside the house of her boyfriend, Ivan Ronquillo, in Barangay Apolonio Samson.
Ronquillo later appeared before the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) on Monday, Nov. 17. He stated that they had arrived at his home on the morning of Nov. 16, took a nap at noon, and discovered the model unresponsive in the evening.

The report said the body showed early post-mortem changes, mild heart congestion, and swollen lungs, and no fatal external injuries. 

The final cause of death will depend on the results of toxicology and histopathology tests.

“Kailangan antayin din natin ‘yung resulta ng toxicology examination para dun sa iba pang cause of death. Kasi dito nga sa initial is hindi fatal. So ibig sabihin, hindi ‘yun ‘yung ikinamatay niya(We also need to wait for the results of the toxicology examination for the other cause of death. Because here in the initial it is not fatal. So that means, that is not what killed him),” said Maj. Jennifer Gannaban, spokesperson of  QPCD.
On Wednesday morning, Nov. 19, the victim’s alleged boyfriend was found dead at around 7 a.m. 

QCPD reported that Ronquillo was found by a tenant hanging from the metal stairs outside the house.

The neighbor then informed Ronquillo’s father, who then sought assistance from a Brgy. Apolonio Samson official.

 He was transported to the Quezon City General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival at 7:20 a.m. 

A cursory examination revealed no external injuries other than the ligature mark on his neck.

Ronquillo’s relatives told authorities that prior to the incident, he had been experiencing emotional distress following the sudden death of his girlfriend. 

The victim’s father voluntarily submitted a handwritten waiver expressing the family’s belief that the incident was a case of suicide and stating that they would no longer pursue further investigation.

Nevertheless, police said they will treat this case like any other and will continue conducting standard follow-up procedures to ensure proper and complete documentation.
