The Southern Police District (SPD) arrested a man in an entrapment operation for the illegal sale and possession of unregistered firearms in Taguig on Nov. 18.
The suspect was identified as alias Clarence who was arrested by the police in a buy-bust operation in JP Rizal Extension in Barangay Cembo, Taguig following a planned entrapment against individuals involved in the sale and possession of unregistered firearms, an offense under Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
The operation was conducted after a report was received through a regular confidential informant. This prompted the SPD’s District Special Operations Unit to mount a controlled buy-bust.
The team worked in coordination with the SPD’s District Intelligence Division, District Mobile Force Battalion, and Taguig police.
Recovered from the suspect were a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, five live rounds of .38 ammunition, a mobile phone, and a marked P1,000 bill used in the transaction. The suspect opted to remain silent.
The suspect and seized evidence were brought to the DSOU office for proper documentation and the filing of charges.
Investigators are now tracing his possible connections to other illegal firearms transactions in Metro Manila.
Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo, acting district director of SPD, said, “Removing loose firearms from our communities is essential to maintaining peace and security.”
