Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronnie Puno has praised Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos for maintaining smooth operations in the House of Representatives despite the attacks on his father, President Marcos.
Puno, in a recent press conference, said it would be understandable for Rep. Marcos to go through various emotions because of the corruption allegations being raised against the President.
But the 31-year-old is holding up "very well", Puno said.
"Well obviously you attack his father, he's not going to be happy, di ba? (Right?) And he is also the majority leader of the House so it is sad for him I suppose to see all of these things happening but I think we can assure everybody that the House is moving on okay," he said.
As majority leader, Rep. Marcos sits as chairman of the powerful House Committee on Rules, which practically sets hearings and the goings-on in plenary.
"I mean the committee meetings are proceeding the way they're supposed to all of these things have not affected the way the House is operating because the Committee on Rules, their majority leader...because he's (Rep. Marcos) doing very well. So OK lang tayo dito (So we're doing OK here)," Puno said.
Over the weekend, Zaldy Co, a former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, claimed in a series of Facebook video uploads that President Marcos forced P100 billion worth of project insertions in the 2025 national budget, particularly during the Bicameral Conference Committee hearings.
From this massive insertion, the Chief Executive allegedly received P25 billion in kickbacks, the resigned Ako Bicol Party-list representative alleged.
Puno has said that Co's claims were impossible and that he was drawing accusations out of nowhere.
He went as far to say that Co was "the most guilty" when it comes to the alleged corruption on flood control and other infrastructure projects.
"I don't think that all of this have a negative effect or at least a damaging effect on the work of Congress," the Antipolo solon said.
