Deputy Majority Leader TGP Party-list Rep. Jose "'Bong" Teves Jr. has taken up the cudgels for Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos following what the former called the "baseless accusations" made by Senator Imee Marcos against the first family.
In a statement Wednesday, Nov. 19, Teves--who is also the president of the Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI)--says he expresses his "unequivocal and unwavering support for the presidential son and House maiority leader", Rep. Marcos.
"Majority Leader Marcos has consistently demonstrated his dedication to serving the Filipino people with integrity and commitment since he first entered the public service. This is evident through his legislative accomplishments during the previous 19th and the current 20t Congress which responds to the needs of our fellow countrymen," Teves said.
"Ever since I've known Majority Leader Marcos when he was still learning the dynamics of the House of Representatives as an intern during the 18th Congress, he has shown utmost professionalism that can be replicated not only by young and aspiring leaders but also the ordinary Filipino," he noted.
"These traits clearly differ to the accusations of Senator Marcos," Teves said.
During the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC)-led anti-corruption rally last Monday, Senator Marcos, Rep. Marcos own aunt, accused her brother, President Marcos, of being a drug user. She claimed the same for First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and the majority leader.
Senator Marcos has since continued her tirades against the family on her social media.
In this regard, Teves said: "We urge our fellow public servants to conduct ourselves with the sense of responsibility expected of national leaders and refrain from making unfounded statements meant to undermine public confidence."
"Lastly, I reiterate my full and unwavering support for Majority Leader Marcos and I stand firmly behind his continued service and leadership," he further said.
