First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Wednesday took a swipe at what she described as “fake news,” following renewed allegations linking her and President Marcos to illegal drug use.
In back-to-back posts on Facebook and Instagram past midnight, Nov. 19, the First Lady shared photos from her meeting with a foreign film producer, director, and cast members currently shooting a movie in the Philippines.
She said the filmmakers praised Filipinos for being “genuine and kind,” adding they hoped to bring more Hollywood projects to the country.
“We then talked about the script of their movie, and I bit my tongue because I wanted to say: ‘Welcome to entertainment – Pinoy style! Only in the Pinas will you find a plot full of holes and actors who can’t deliver and a climax that leaves entire communities underwater,’” she wrote.
“Let’s not even talk about fake news,” she added.
But only a few minutes later, the First Lady posted another photo showing a fabricated art card falsely quoting her response to allegations raised by her sister-in-law, Senator Imee Marcos.
“And speaking of fake news… ‘welcome to entertainment, Pinoy style!” she captioned the post.
The fake quote card claims that the First Lady will not argue with Senator Marcos, but added that the former’s statements were as fake as her “mukhang retokada” (surgically altered face).
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro has also denounced the circulating art card, saying it did not reflect the First Lady’s character.
“Hindi po ganyan ang ugali ng ating First Lady (Our First Lady is not like that),” she said.
The fake quote emerged after Senator Marcos, during an Iglesia ni Cristo rally on Monday, Nov. 17, claimed her brother’s supposed drug addiction worsened because the First Lady was allegedly using illegal drugs.
She also said she once appealed to then-president Rodrigo Duterte to go after drug pushers to “save” her brother ahead of the 2022 elections.
Castro earlier described the senator’s statements as “a desperate move,” noting that President Marcos had taken a drug test in 2021 that yielded negative results.
Despite these renewed allegations, she said the First Couple is not contemplating legal action for now.
