Cloudflare outage: A fifth of the internet goes down, CTO apologizes
As Manila and our side of the world was getting ready for a good night’s rest on the night of November 18, 2025, a Cloudflare outage affected numerous internet platforms. Websites like X, Spotify, Canva, OpenAI, Letterboxd, League of Legends, ChatGPT, and more had users reporting issues and were unable to access these platforms.
Cloudflare is an American internet infrastructure and website security company which handles around a fifth of web traffic. The company reported investigating the service interruption at around 6:40am Eastern Time (7:40pm Manila time).
Cloudflare's Chief Technology Officer Dane Knecht posted on his X account to apologize to the users affected by the outage: “I won't mince words: earlier today we failed our customers and the broader internet when a problem in @Cloudlfare network impacted large amounts of traffic that rely on us. The sites, businesses, and organizations that rely on Cloudflare depend on us being available and I apologize for the impact that we caused."
“Work is already underway to make sure it does not happen again.” Knetch reassured his followers.
Downdetector, a platform that reports real-time outages, reached a peak of nearly 5,000 reports on Cloudflare issues by 8:00am Eastern Time (9:00pm Manila time). This has since gone done significantly with the affected platforms now resuming their usual services.
