A 32-year-old woman was arrested for spreading obscene photos and videos of her husband and his alleged girlfriend in Marikina City on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The Marikina City Police Station identified the suspect as “Ler,” who now faces charges for violations of the Safe Spaces Act (Gender-Based Sexual Harassment), Section 12 of Republic Act 11313, in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175).
She was arrested based on a warrant issued by Presiding Judge Anjanette N. De Leon-Ortile of the Regional Trial Court, National Capital Judicial Region, Marikina City, on Nov. 15, 2024, with a recommended bail of P210,000.
According to the investigation, the wife had suspected her husband of having an affair with another woman since 2021. She allegedly confirmed her suspicions after seeing obscene videos and photos of him with the other woman on his phone.
Out of anger, she reportedly shared these videos and photos on social media and showed them to relatives of the alleged girlfriend, prompting the filing of a complaint against her.
Authorities said the suspect and her husband are now on good terms and have two children. However, she was arrested due to the warrant after being located in Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City.
During her arrest, officers said the wife willingly surrendered. They also said that she regretted her actions and learned her lesson, claiming that it is not easy to live without peace of mind.
She is currently in the custody of Marikina CPS.
Meanwhile, the Marikina CPS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that those who attempt to evade the law are held accountable and to securing justice for victims of cyber-related gender-based offenses.
