Vice President Sara Duterte's cousin in the House of Representatives, PPP Party-list Rep. Harold Duterte, acknowledged on Tuesday, Nov. 18 the Filipinos' "collective frustration and deep disappointment" over the corruption scandals hounding the Marcos administration.
"We hear you. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow — our countrymen continue to take to the streets to express their collective frustration and deep disappointment," Rep. Duterte said in a statement.
"Regardless of political lines, religious affiliations, or personal beliefs, one truth rises above all the noise: Our country has once again been betrayed," he said.
Influential religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) capped on Monday night its two-day anti-corruption rally, which drew thousands of demonstrators in the country’s capital.
The massive flood control projects corruption scandal--which has rocked the Marcos administration to its core--arguably continues to trigger such protest action.
"It has been months since these scandals were first uncovered, and despite the noise, the headlines, and the promises of swift action, the nation is still waiting. No arrests. No cases filed. No accountability," Rep. Duterte said.
The neophyte congressman warned: "These rallies are not the first, and if things do not change, they will certainly not be the last."
"Ang mga warning signs, klaro na kaayo. Dili nato huwaton na mu grabe pa ang sitwasyon. (The warning signs are already clear. Let us not wait for the situation to get worse)," he added.
