EDSA protest group denied rally permit, thanks participants
The United People’s Initiative which was denied to hold a rally on Wednesday, Nov. 19, thanked the participants to the two-day "Rally for Accountability, Justice and Integrity" at the People Power Monument in Quezon City, on Sunday, Nov. 16, and Monday, Nov. 17.
“Your presence—whether on the streets, online, or within your communities—demonstrated the growing public desire for honest governance and a nation anchored on truth,” it said in a statement on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
“We also thank our partner organizations, civil society groups, sectoral coalitions, and youth volunteers, church networks, and professional associations whose courage and solidarity made these two days a powerful expression of democratic participation,” it added.
UPI lead convenor, retired General Romeo Poquiz said that their permit for a 3rd day rally was denied by the Quezon City government.
“We regret that the Quezon City government has denied us a permit to continue our peaceful rally at the People Power Monument. As we issue this, the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) is now removing the tents, stage, and barriers along White Plains Avenue, effectively forcing the early cessation of our program,” he said.
The two-day rally drew an estimated 4,000 participants on the first day and 4,500 on the second day, according to the Quezon City Police District.
The event was also attended by Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga and former congressman Mike Defensor.
The United People’s Initiative organized the gathering to highlight the public's calls for accountability and integrity in government.
