Negros Occidental proposes P7.6-B budget for 2026

BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has proposed a P7.6-billion budget for 2026, reflecting a significant increase driven by a higher National Tax Allotment (NTA) and stronger local revenue collection.
Vice Gov. Jose Benito Alonso said the proposal is P1.16 billion or 17.98 percent higher than this year’s P6.457 billion.
Alonso said P7.32 billion was allocated to the General Fund while P294.6 million was set aside for the Economic Enterprise Development Department (EEDD).
The proposed budget prioritizes infrastructure, health care, agriculture, education, and social protection.
It was formally submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan where a series of budget deliberations will be held this month.
Alonso said that the province’s NTA has increased to P6.65 billion, significantly boosting fiscal capacity, alongside P668.5 million in projected local income.
A budget review will be conducted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Budget and Finance chaired by Board Member Marxlen dela Cruz of the first district.
Dela Cruz assured transparency throughout the budget deliberations to safeguard the interests of the people.
