The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported P946.4 million in damage in Kalinga which is under a state of calamity due to typhoon “Uwan.”
The PDRRMC said in a report on Nov. 17 that 13,695 families or 58,137 individuals were affected and 1,875 houses were damaged. Seventy-nine were totally destroyed. Damage to property was placed at P16.5 million.
Kalinga also sustained P41.8 million in damage to agriculture, particularly rice, corn, high-value crops, vegetables, banana, calamansi, coffee, durian, and rambutan.
Damage to agriculture infrastructure was placed at P72.4 million.
Extensive damage to public infrastructure was also reported, totaling P800.6 million.
Animal and poultry losses were estimated at P14.3 million and P664, 570 in livelihood losses.
Five fatalities were recorded – four from a landslide and one from drowning.
Provincial officials said the extent of the damage may continue to increase as local government units complete their assessments, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
People were urged to closely coordinate with local officials for assistance, advice, and ongoing relief operations.
