Visayas-based congressmen maintained its support for President Marcos amid the allegations of corruption hounding his administration.
In its statement Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Visayan Bloc also underscored the oft-buried fact that it was the Chief Executive himself who launched the massive investigation against the corruption issue that's dominating public discourse.
"The Visayan Bloc expresses its full support for President Marcos and, more importantly, for the anti-corruption crusade he began," the bloc said.
"In recent days, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has been the target of political attacks meant to distract the nation from the real work at hand," noted the group, whose convernor is veteran solon Bacolod lone district Rep. Albee Benitez.
"These attacks followed the President’s unprecedented and uncompromising campaign against corruption—a campaign that has opened inquiries, exposed systemic anomalies worth billions of pesos, and shaken long-entrenched networks of influence and abuse," the bloc said in obvious reference to the flood control projects corruption scandal.
It was Marcos who ordered the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI)--the body that had been acting as the special investigator of anomalous or "ghost" flood control projects.
According to the bloc, resistance is a given whenever a President confronts corruption at such an enormous scale.
"And so is the duty of those who profess to serve the people: to stand firm, to stay focused, and to finish the work started by the President," the solons said.
"Good governance is not a partisan project; it is a moral obligation. We stand with the President because we stand with every Filipino who deserves honesty, transparency, and accountability in public service," they said.
The Visayan Bloc urged their fellow solons and Filipino citizens alike to "reject distractions and political theatrics".
"The fight against corruption is bigger than any individual, administration, or party — and it is a fight we must see through, together," it said.
"The Visayan Bloc will always be a partner in this national effort. We remain committed to working with the President to ensure that this moment becomes a turning point in our country’s journey toward clean, accountable, and principled governance," it concluded.
