In an emotionally-charged statement, House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos slammed the actions of his aunt, Senator Imee !Marcos, after the latter accused his father, President Marcos of being a drug user
"HINDI ITO ASAL NG ISANG TUNAY NA KAPATID (This is not the conduct of a true sibling)," Rep. Marcos said in a Facebook post Tuesday, Nov. 18, the emphasis his.
Senator Marcos' claims of drug abuse against the first family extended to the President’s wife, Liza Araneta-Marcos and to Rep. Marcos himself.
"I have always acknowledged and respected the role my Tita, Senator Imee Marcos, played in the early part of my public life. That respect remains which is why this will be the first and last time I will be speaking on this," the House majority leader said.
"It pains me to see how low she has gone to the point that she resorts to a web of lies aimed at destabilizing this government to advance her own political ambitions. To further repeat an accusation against President Bongbong Marcos and the First Lady (and for the first time ever myself) that is not only false, but dangerously irresponsible," he said.
"Sa lahat po ng binanggit ni senadora, walang basehan, walang katotohanan, at walang magandang idudulot sa bayan (In everything the senator mentioned, there is no basis, no truth, and nothing good it will bring to the nation)," Rep. Marcos categorically said.
Referring to Senator Marcos' own children, the Ilocos Norte congressman said: "My cousins Borgy, Vice Gov. Matthew, and Atty. Michael can attest that these allegations that were insinuated against me are false."
"We always agreed that whatever happened between our parents, we wouldn't let ourselves be draqged in. That is why nakakalungkot makita na ginagawa niya ito (That’s why it's saddening to see that she's doing these things)," Rep. Marcos.
"For her to betray her own family brings a lot of pain to me as a consequence of my respect to her for giving me my start in public life," he said.
"Now is the time to unite behind truth, not to amplify narratives meant to topple the government. Panahon ngayon para magtulungan, hindi para magpalaganap ng gulo at destabilisasyon (This is a time for cooperation, not for spreading disorder and destabilization)," Rep. Marcos further said.
Senator Marcos raised her allegations during Monday night's Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) anti-corruption rally.
