The Department of Tourism (DOT) is deploying smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to make travel across the Philippines safer and more efficient for every visitor.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said the initiative empowers tourists with reliable technology and accurate tourism information while ensuring that every visit benefits local destinations.
The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement with Millennial Zeal Technology Corporation (MZTC), the official distributor of OPPO Philippines, equips all 18 DOT operating offices with advanced smart devices.
It also transforms Tourism Information Desks into one-stop guidance hubs, modernizes Hop-On-Hop-Off Tours, and expands the Philippine Experience Program nationwide.
“This partnership gives our teams the tools to document tourism activities, report on site conditions, assist visitors, coordinate with LGUs, and monitor program implementation efficiently,” Frasco said.
Joanarc Sales, OPPO’s Associate Marketing Director, said the collaboration will enable tourism frontliners, creators, and regional offices to share stories with clarity, consistency, and pride.
She added the partnership promotes skills development, training, and responsible storytelling aligned with Filipino culture and DOT standards.
With OPPO technology already deployed in 12 Tourist Rest Areas nationwide, the project enhances convenience, safety, and access to real-time assistance.
