4 weather systems to bring rains over parts of PH through weekend — PAGASA
Various weather systems are expected to bring rain showers over parts of the Philippines from Wednesday, Nov. 19, through Saturday, Nov. 22, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its four-day extended weather outlook.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said scattered rains and thunderstorms will continue over some areas in Mindanao on Wednesday due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), while the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas will see similar conditions because of the easterlies and the shear line.
The ITCZ is the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
The easterlies are warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, while the shear line forms from the collision of cold air from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm winds from the easterlies.
From Thursday, Nov. 20, to Saturday, Nov. 22, Badrina said the amihan will bring cloudy skies with rains over Northern Luzon.
He added that the surge of amihan has started on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region are also expected to experience scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the combined effects of the easterlies and the shear line.
The ITCZ is expected to weaken during this period.
Badrina said the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, with only isolated rain showers or thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
He added that no tropical cyclone is expected to form within the next three to five days.
