Movem partners with Megaworld to deploy 9 e-bus units by 2026
Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced that its end-to-end electric mobility solutions provider, Movem Electric Inc., has partnered with property developer Megaworld Corp. to roll out new electric buses at its townships.
In a statement on Monday, Nov. 17, Movem said its e-buses will be integrated into Megaworld’s bus operator, CityLink Coach Services Inc.
This bus fleet serves residents, workers, and daily commuters around various Megaworld properties in Metro Manila.
By 2026, Movem is set to bring nine additional units into the property firm’s locations.
According to Meralco, each bus can accommodate 24 seated and 11 standing passengers and will operate alongside buses that utilize internal combustion engines (ICE).
The pilot deployment began in April at McKinley Hill township in Taguig City, while the next fleet will begin in December at Newport City in Pasay City.
The e-buses will also enter Uptown Bonifacio in Taguig, as well as other townships in Visayas.
Don Earl Caagbay, head of estate management at Megaworld, said that this partnership would help the company achieve sustainable townships, stating that, “An important part of this initiative is being able to provide innovative mobility solutions for people who live, work, and play in our townships.”
“This partnership with Movem is just the beginning of bringing this vision to reality,” he added.
Maria Francesca Defensor, chief operating officer (COO) of Movem, added that, “We are committed to continue supporting Megaworld to accelerate their electric mobility initiatives. It is through working with like-minded partners that we can drive the Philippines' journey towards cleaner and greener transportation.”
Movem was established in 2018 and has been rolling out electric vehicle (EV) and charging infrastructures in the country.
According to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data released last week, the number of registered EVs grew from 1,359 in 2023 to 6,697 in 2024; hybrid vehicles also rose from 6,155 in 2023 to 17,590 last year.
