Del Monte earnings surge after US business write-off

Del Monte Pacific Ltd. (DMPL) reported that its net earnings surged more than seven-fold to $22.3 million in the first half of its current fiscal year (FY) ending April 2026, from $2.7 million in the same period a year ago, as a result of stronger sales and higher margins after writing off its United States (US) business.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), DMPL said its sales in the first half of FY 2026 increased by 11 percent to $438.6 million on the back of a 16-percent surge in fresh pineapple sales and a 10-percent growth in the Philippines.
Gross margin improved by 580 basis points (bps) to 33.4 percent from 27.6 percent in the first half, mainly driven by better pricing across all segments as well as lower production cost from higher pineapple recovery.
DMPL said it is “currently working on certain strategic initiatives to strengthen its capital base and support growth plans. As part of these initiatives and to keep concerned stakeholders and all shareholders equally informed, the company believes it is appropriate to provide this interim financial update summarizing recent progress and performance trends for its second quarter of FY 2026 ending October 2025.”
For the second quarter ending in October, DMPL said its net profit increased seven-fold to $16.8 million from $2.3 million, reflecting strong operational efficiency and market demand.
Total sales grew 10 percent to $234.9 million, driven by both domestic and international businesses, particularly fresh pineapple exports.
Philippine sales rose nine percent in peso terms and seven percent in US dollar terms to $121.7 million, while international sales grew seven percent to $90.6 million, fueled by robust exports of fresh pineapple.
The firm increased market share in north Asia to 51 percent for imported pineapples, cementing its leading position as the preferred fresh pineapple supplier.
Gross margin improved by almost 700 bps to 34.2 percent from 27.6 percent on higher sales and lower production cost.
Sales in the Philippines in the second quarter rose nine percent to $121.7 million on higher volume and better pricing. Strong demand for packaged pineapple and expanded year-round use of mixed fruits led Philippine growth.
Nutrition-led initiatives positioning pineapple as an everyday superfruit further strengthened consumer preference for natural, immunity-building options.
International sales in the second quarter grew by seven percent to $90.6 million with increased volume of fresh pineapple, not-from-concentrate (NFC) juice, and frozen pineapple.
The fresh fruit business spearheaded the growth with a 23-percent expansion from continued higher sales of the deluxe variety improving the sales mix, coupled with strong pricing.
The NFC juice segment grew by 49 percent primarily due to higher sales in China and Europe. In addition, frozen pineapple sales rose 21 percent from favorable product mix and strong pricing.
