BACOLOD CITY – Ayala Malls Capitol Central recently unveiled a 31.4-foot Christmas tree, lighted as a symbol of hope and unity, as this highly urbanized city and Negros Occidental province recover from past calamities.
General Manager Sharon Ciocon highlighted that the holiday season inspires generosity and compassion, especially for communities affected by natural disasters.
The display honors people affected by typhoons “Tino” and “Uwan,” serving as a reminder that “the spirit of Christmas shines brightest when we come together to help one another,” Ciocon said.
“Christmas is a time to give more and share whatever we have. This season, it’s high time to spread joy and help those impacted by the typhoons,” she said, adding that the mall has prepared special activities for visitors.
In a message read by Executive Assistant Jonathan Diaz, Mayor Greg Gasataya recognized the challenges many families continue to face in rebuilding their homes after the storm.
Gasataya noted that the Christmas tree lighting is a symbol of hope, illustrating how even the smallest light can shine through the darkest nights.
The mayor thanked the mall for supporting the community during the tropical cyclones by providing free charging stations, temporary shelters for stranded individuals, and free parking for vehicles.
This year’s theme, “That Feeling When Christmas Magic Unwraps,” reflects the mall’s focus on giving and togetherness.
Ciocon emphasized that every visit to the mall is meant to be a meaningful moment shared with loved ones, expressing gratitude to partners, tenants, and the broader community for their continued support.
A highlight was the presentation of symbolic “Holiday Treasures,” each representing a cherished aspect of Filipino Christmas: Christmas balls for remembrance and traditions, stars for guidance and hope, ribbons for unity, Christmas lights for celebration, and gifts for generosity and gratitude.
