BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has assured continuous assistance for typhoon “Tino” victims.
Lacson said that the President’s visit is encouraging and showed that the government is aware of the situation in calamity-hit areas.
The President was accompanied by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara, and Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
“His presence here in addition to the Cabinet secretaries who came over shows the concern is there, and they’ll do everything to be able to fund and push for the recovery,” Lacson said.
Lacson joined the situational briefing led by the President, with other local officials and Cabinet secretaries at the La Castellana Municipal Council building during a visit on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The governor said the government is aware of infrastructure destroyed and needed funding.
However, this will take a while. “The solution to the disaster brought about by the typhoon cannot be addressed in a short time. It was made clear that this will take time,” Lacson said.
Lacson said that the P50 million provided by the national government is already in the account of the provincial government but they have yet to decide to distribute it as financial assistance or housing materials, similar to when typhoon ‘’Odette’’ hit the province.
