Meralco victory a big boost for Cebuanos

The Bolts made sure to put smiles on the faces of people, who, just a few days ago, were grieving for the loss of their belongings, their livelihood, and even loved ones, when they took down the Macau Black Bears, 92-74, at the Cebu Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Aside from the thrilling battle, Meralco also made sure to dish out a big assist to the Cebuanos after pledging a P500,000 donation for the relief efforts for the victims of the flood.
That was also on top of EASL’s noble gesture of making the event a charity game with all the proceeds going to Typhoon Tino victims.
“I hope it leaves hope. At the end of the day some things are out of our control as humans but I hope it leaves hope. I hope they keep fighting. I hope they keep supporting us and we will continue to support them,” said Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
The Cebuano crowd made sure to repay the Bolts with the loud cheers and warm support that served as fuel to Meralco’s big win.
“A lot of times Meralco isn't the favorite team so this time it really felt like a home game for us. With everything going on it kind of blended really well for us to be able to play. We’re not just here to play for Meralco, to play for the PBA. but we are here to play for the country, for our countrymen and the people that go through everyday struggles,” said Newsome.
“Having that kind of motivation made it a much different game than the usual PBA game. It was an honor to represent you all and play in front of you,” he added.
Meralco rode on the big games from imports Hollis-Jefferson and Ismael Romero, with the former putting up 34 points, 11 rebounds and five assists while the latter had 25 points and 28 rebounds
“It is amazing. It is nothing like, we appreciate the support here in Cebu. We understand what they are going through. We are just happy to bring those some excitement,” added Hollis-Jefferson.
