GAC Aion V
GAC made a strong impression at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) in Manila, where it unveiled a new generation of electrified vehicles for the Philippine market. Headlining the event were the all-electric Aion V and HyptEC HT, along with the local preview of the Aion UT. The brand also displayed its plug-in hybrid and hybrid models, the M8 PHEV and Emkoo HEV, completing a full spectrum of electrified options for Filipino buyers.
The showcase marked GAC’s effort to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia through electrification and localization under the “One GAC 2.0” strategy. This initiative focuses on developing local partnerships, promoting value creation, and building a stronger EV ecosystem in the Philippines.
Aion, GAC’s electric vehicle sub-brand, operates separately from the main GAC Motor network. While Astara Philippines manages the distribution of GAC Motor, Aion is handled directly by GAC International Philippines. The sub-brand was previously managed by Dangdang New Energy Auto Service (Philippines) Limited Corporation. It now operates under GAC International Philippines, led by Senior Vice President Wang Shunsheng, General Manager Calvin Cheng, Chief Brand Officer Reginald Go See, and Head of Sales and Marketing Lincoln Lan.
Aion V
The Aion V is positioned as a practical electric SUV designed for families and professionals. Its permanent magnet synchronous motor delivers 181 PS and 240 Nm of torque. The model uses GAC’s Magazine Battery, engineered for long service life and safety, capable of over 600 kilometers of range on the CLTC cycle. A 150 kW DC fast charger can replenish the battery from 30 to 80 percent in about 16 minutes.
With a 2,775 mm wheelbase, the Aion V provides ample cabin space and a comfortable ride tuned for Philippine road conditions. The interior features flat-folding rear seats, a three-zone intelligent refrigerator, and a 14.6-inch infotainment display powered by the ADiGO system, complete with voice command and smartphone connectivity.
HyptEC HT
The HyptEC HT stands as GAC’s flagship electric SUV. It combines bold design with high performance, featuring distinctive electric gullwing doors and refined craftsmanship. The rear-mounted motor produces 381 PS and 380 Nm of torque, accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. Power comes from a 93.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers up to 603 km of range and supports 280 kW DC charging, which can recharge the battery from 10 to 70 percent in about 15 minutes.
Inside, the HyptEC HT offers Nappa leather upholstery, reclining rear seats, and a 22-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system. Its 14.6-inch touchscreen, powered by a Snapdragon 8155 processor, integrates intelligent features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and a 360-degree camera system.
Aion UT
The Aion UT made its Philippine debut at the summit, representing GAC’s vision for younger and tech-savvy drivers. Following its successful launch in Thailand, where it reached 1,000 deliveries within 39 days, the Aion UT arrives as part of GAC Aion. Its compact form, connected features, and futuristic styling are expected to resonate with the growing base of Filipino EV adopters when it is formally launched.
M8 PHEV and Emkoo HEV
Rounding out the display were GAC’s two hybrid models. The M8 PHEV, the brand’s flagship plug-in hybrid MPV, combines spacious comfort with efficient performance through its advanced hybrid powertrain. The Emkoo HEV, meanwhile, brings a high-efficiency hybrid engine paired with a sporty design and good handling dynamics.
Growing with the Philippine market
“These launches mark a landmark moment for GAC in the Philippines. We are introducing world-class electric vehicles that combine advanced technology, practical features, and outstanding safety, tailored to Filipino lifestyles,” said Wang Shunsheng, Senior Vice President of GAC International and President of the GAC International Asia-Pacific Regional Center.
Since its entry into the Philippines in 2018, GAC has expanded to more than 30 dealerships nationwide and achieved a 65 percent sales increase in 2024. This progress reflects stronger consumer trust and supports the brand’s localization drive focused on job creation, aftersales development, and sustainable mobility.
“Our localization strategy has been the cornerstone of our growth. We are not just launching new models. We are also building long-term partnerships, creating jobs, and investing in the Philippine EV ecosystem,” said Calvin Cheng, General Manager of GAC International Philippines.
Launch privilege package
To encourage EV adoption, GAC International Philippines is offering an Exclusive Launch Privilege Package for buyers of the Aion V and HyptEC HT. The package, priced at ₱999, includes benefits worth over ₱99,999 such as a 7 kW home charger, portable charger, car cover, floor mats, LTO registration, TPL insurance, and one-year preventive maintenance. Both vehicles come with an eight-year or 160,000 km vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 200,000 km warranty on the battery, motor, and electric control system.
The Aion V starts at ₱1,498,000, while the HyptEC HT is priced from ₱2,260,000.
Looking ahead
GAC’s participation at PEVS 2025 highlights its continuing push to make electric mobility attainable for a wider audience. However, even with the Emkoo HEV and M8 PHEV appearing alongside the Aion lineup, questions remain about whether Astara Philippines, which handles GAC Motor, and GAC International Philippines, which manages Aion, will eventually merge their operations to offer the brand’s complete range under a single network.
