Vietnamese woman rescued from human trafficker in Makati City
A 26-year-old Vietnamese woman was rescued by the Makati City Police from another foreigner identified as a notorious human trafficker during an entrapment operation at a hotel in Makati City on Friday, Nov. 14.
The police identified the victim as "Tru’O’ng" and the suspect as "Houng," 29.
According to the police, the operation stemmed from a validated tip from a confidential informant regarding Houng's human trafficking operations wherein she lures female foreigners through social media by offering them fraudulent job opportunities.
The suspect is also said to confiscate her victims' passports and other personal documents and threaten them to participate in illegal activities, particularly sex slavery.
The police seized several IDs from the suspect and the marked money, as well as numerous used and unused condoms.
Houng is currently facing charges for violations of RA 9208, as amended by RA 10364 and RA 11862, or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022.
Meanwhile, Tru’O’ng has been turned over to the Women and Children’s Concerns Section (WCCS) of the Makati City Police and will be provided counseling and support through the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Office.
“This operation demonstrates our firm commitment to defending vulnerable individuals against human trafficking. We will relentlessly pursue perpetrators, enforce the law without compromise, and safeguard the safety, rights, and dignity of every victim," Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo said.
